While the world-famous sights, sounds, and attractions of nearby New Orleans understandably grab the spotlight, Luling and our native St. Charles Parish provide an excellent home base and all the peace and privacy of a small-town living.
Luling itself is actually one of the city’s top-rated residential areas, with our town and the surrounding areas being home to historic Southern plantations, marvels of modern engineering, and some wild outdoor adventures including everything from airboat rides and alligator encounters to birdwatching and swamp tours.

For example, the Lafon Performing Arts Center and its year-long lineup of musical and theatre performances (and even drive-in movies) await only about a mile away. So too does Westbank Bridge Park, which hosts the annual Alligator Festival, a staple of life and what is a pretty active festival scene here in St. Charles Parish. The Catfish and a multitude of other themed festivals, seasonal celebrations, and of course, Mardi Gras parades routinely bring folks together to revel in traditions and local culture.
Cross the mighty Mississippi and explore the Destrehan Plantation, which dates all the way back to 1787. There, tours, artifacts and costumed artisans await, transporting visitors back in time to experience this region’s early history. For space and science buffs, there’s also the Library Planetarium, which has free public shows three days a week. Even engineering majors can get their fix around here, as our area is home to the Bonnet Carré Spillway Bridge, a twin concrete trestle bridge that is one of the longest in the world.
